The FIRST EVER Native Arts Market in Santa Cruz County, California
Was a Huge Success!
I’m a pleased to say that the Native Arts Market I organized and promoted was amazing. It was held at the Watsonville Woman’s Club at 12 Brennan Street on December 6th, 2025 from 11am-6pm. We had a steady flow of visitors throughout the day and all the vendors were very happy with their sales. In fact, several people tried to enter before we even opened and were setup so I had to send them away until opening time. I took great care in selecting indigenous artisans that all created different arts and crafts as I wanted everyone to have a fair opportunity to sell without competing with someone else with similar items.
The event was sponsored in part by the grants from the Arts Council of Santa Cruz and the Awesome Foundation. So a big thank you to these local organizations!
I offered my clay and gourd masks, canvas prints, orginal art t-shirts, note cards, rawhide shields, metal prints, bead work, serigraphs, photography, vintage native made items and much more. My selected vendors were: Mia Burrell (traditional native ribbon clothing), Anthony McGurk (abalone jewelry), Chiffon Lark (illustrator, author), Nash Tavewa (drums, rattles, flutes), Arturo Gaspar (woodcraft, sculpture, walking sticks, rock paintings). Although non-native, I had Dean Smith of Paradise Beads with a variety of native made items and a huge selection of beads used in native crafts.
Here’s a link to a reel from the event on Instagram. And here is the Native Arts Market Facebook page.
I will be planning a Spring Native Arts Market! Look for future details.
